The OnDemand 100 winners were selected from among hundreds of other technology companies

Abiquo, a leading developer of Cloud infrastructure management software, on Tuesday announced it has been chosen by AlwaysOn as one of the OnDemand Top 100 winners. Inclusion in the OnDemand 100 signifies leadership amongst peers and game-changing approaches and technologies that are likely to disrupt existing markets and entrenched players. Abiquo was specially selected by the AlwaysOn editorial team and industry experts spanning the globe based on a set of five criteria: innovation, market potential, commercialization, stakeholder value, and media buzz.

Abiquo and the OnDemand Top 100 companies will be honored at AlwaysOn’s OnDemand event on April 19th, 2010, at Hewlett-Packard’s Worldwide Headquarters in Palo Alto, Calif.

This two-and-a-half-day executive event features CEO presentations and high-level debates on how the Internet is disrupting how companies—from small businesses to large enterprises—create, store, distribute, analyze, and take advantage of their mission-critical data.

“As the digital information created by businesses continues to explode at astronomical rates, the need to store, manage, analyze, and share this information is becoming extremely challenging,” said Tony Perkins, founder and editor of AlwaysOn. “We congratulate this year’s OnDemand 100 for providing the technology platforms and services needed to manage and leverage this new era of information complexity and overload.”

The OnDemand 100 winners were selected from among hundreds of other technology companies nominated by investors, bankers, journalists, and industry insiders. The AlwaysOn editorial team conducted a rigorous three-month selection process to finalize the 2010 list.

Abiquo’s innovation in the emerging sector of cloud infrastructure management and selection to the OnDemand 100 is based on its unique vision and solutions, which are changing the way IT organizations operate and service their users. In the Abiquo vision, the provisioning of the physical infrastructure is completely separated from the virtual applications infrastructure by a “Resource Cloud.” The physical infrastructure is managed by the IT organization and provides resources to the Resource Cloud while virtual enterprises (containing virtual datacenters, virtual machines and virtual appliances) consume it. However, the management of virtual entities is delegated to authorized administrators, who operate autonomously, but within enforced resource limits based on predetermined policies. This allows authorized staff to automatically distribute virtual machines and storage across the physical infrastructure, according to security, compliance and load balancing requirements.

“Abiquo recognized early on there was a gap in the market when it came to giving enterprises sophisticated, open solutions for managing Cloud infrastructures,” said Pete Malcolm, CEO of Abiquo. “We wanted to be one of the top emerging companies setting the agenda for Cloud computing and being named to the OnDemand Top 100, only days after coming out of semi-stealth mode, validates this effort. Beyond our vision around the Resource Cloud, we’ve set a clear roadmap for how Cloud computing will evolve – practically and theoretically. And, we have the technology solutions – such as the first product on the market to allow IT managers to automatically convert virtual machine images built for any one hypervisor to any other hypervisor through a single drag-and-drop operation – to deliver to organizations the management platforms they need for taking advantage of fully interoperable, vendor-neutral public and private Clouds.”
